Fibro Feelings – Party Reflections
Last week I had so much to say about my hip that I didn’t get to tell you much about how hosting our annual party went. This year we invited a few more people and changed up the furniture to accommodate that. Using the overly detailed lists that I created last year really helped me. It even cut down on the insomnia I so easily have the week of the party. I added even more details as I was preparing, so it’ll be even better next year!
The same couple that brought me a soy-free treat also brought a delicious entree. This helped so much more than I would’ve even imagined. It cut down on one of the entrees that I would have had to made which allowed me to focus on setting out all the things I had made in advance. I also provided a pitcher of a mixed alcoholic drink so I wouldn’t have to worry about mixing up drinks for people as often. Instead of using our dishwasher safe china this year we opted for compostable bamboo plates that I ordered in bulk online. I feel a little guilty about the added waste, but it really did make things easier to clean up (less dishwasher loads to do) and I think it helped our guests feel a little more comfortable moving around. As always, and especially with my bursitis, I’ve been doing a slowly paced clean up. I’ve gotten most things back to normal, but honestly I haven’t even touched the beds some friends stayed in, yet!
Physically I was surprised at how well I held up. A few preparation plans went array the week of the party so I ended up doing a little more the couple days before the party than I’d wanted to do. I did have a bad headache from 2am until I went to bed (I didn’t want to go to bed with guests still here and awake), but that was the only major pain. I was mostly worried about how my hip would react, as I know my body usually bounces back in a few days. It actually didn’t hurt that much more and then that cortisone shot really helped it a couple days later. Overall I think it was a smashing success!
How long does it usually take you to recover from a party/gathering?

That’s wonderful that it went well and that you enjoyed it too. Having the notes from previous party was a smart idea and next year – even better. It takes me several days to recover from any type of out of the ordinary exertion. If I have a complete day of dealing with others, big and small, I sleep as much of the next 24-36 hours as I can-day or night. Having a cooperative husband sure makes that a lot easier.
Thanks for your blog and all your sharing.

Thanks for sharing how you tackle the situation. I also plan to have low-key days following (prior to) get-togethers.
