Fibro Feelings – A Week of Healing

What is Fibro Feelings?

This week was a week of healing for my body. My back has continued to feel better and this time I’m not taking any chances with physical activities that might push it! I even skipped vacuuming the house this weekend. This allowed me to do a three small loads of laundry without my back hurting much. Monday I tried to do a fourth (and large) load that needed lots of post-washing sorting and that did aggravate my back some. I haven’t done another load of laundry since then and my back has continued healing. My heating pad has been getting LOTS of use.

Tuesday morning I was picking up a heavy shopping bag and the side ripped. Don’t you hate it when that happens? I quickly tried to adjust to catch the contents and managed to tweak my left wrist as well as aggravate my back. The whole day pretty much ended up being a wash. I had a low-grade fever, so besides my wrist and back I was sweating, hot, cold, thirsty, tired and just sort of out of it. I took the entire day easy, lounging on the couch and wearing a wrist brace. Even being on my laptop seemed too tasking. All my resting paid off because Wednesday I woke up feeling MUCH better! I managed to go to the grocery store, make a few calls, wash some dishes, unload the dishwasher, send some emails, chat for awhile at my neighbors and participate in the Arthritis Foundation’s Arthritis Walk national volunteer conference call, among a few other things!

I’m excited that I’m still moving in the right direction of healing because there is only 1 1/2 weeks until National Parks Week! April 16-24 national parks and monuments have free admission. I am hoping to take advantage of that offer on one day, each of the two weekends the celebration is going on. That means there will probably be some type of walking/hiking, crowds and being outdoors two weekends in a row. I want to soak all the wondrous natural beauty in and feel good doing it!

Are you going to any national parks or monuments during the free admission?

Glad u r getting better finally.

Are all national parks participating in the program? I’ll have to check out the link later on. I love ur pic of Yosemite. We have been there a few times. So gorgeous.

Take it easy. Don’t overdo it.

@Pam Thanks, me too! I think all the parks that usually charge a fee are participating, but you can click a link on the page that I linked to that lists each participating park, by state. I’ve only driven by Yosemite, never actually gone into the park.

I’m about at my wits end with my back. Have you had such bad muscle spasms that you haven’t been able to get rid of them? I’ve tried meds, physical therapy, baths, heating pads, TENS unit, etc. and it keeps coming back! This is going on 3 weeks now. My rheumy is referring me to a pain management clinic but I can’t get in there for 2 more weeks! I can’t take this for 2 more weeks for goodness sakes! I honestly am at my wits end here. Any advice?

@Karen Luckily, the muscle spasms I’ve had responded to medicine and therapy. It seems like you’ve tried lots of typically great therapies! Has massage helped you at all? Two weeks is a long time to wait, in pain. If it were me, I’d probably be calling them daily to see if they have had any cancellations! *Hugs* Good luck, please let me know how the pain clinic helps you find relief.

My physical therapist is doing different types of massage therapy. The problem is the muscles are so tight that whenever the therapist tries to work with them they immediately go insane into spasms – even with meds and heat and everything. It is absolutely crazy that nothing is helping me.

Yikes! =( I can’t wait to hear what the pain clinic suggests, but I’m sure you can’t wait even more!

Glad to hear you’re having a “healing” week. That’s fantastic!

Thanks, Ashley! I did another sink full of dishes and another load of laundry today and am still feeling pretty good!
