Fibro Feelings – Arthritis Walk 2010
Recently The Helpful Hubby and I participated in our local Arthritis Walk through the Arthritis Foundation. Although we have been involved as participants before, this year I joined the volunteer event committee and The Helpful Hubby volunteered at the walk.
The day before the event I tried to reserve as much energy as possible. I vacuumed only half of my house, did a lot of sitting down tasks and planned an easy meal for the evening. I still ended up being pretty tired in the evening, so The Helpful Hubby decided he should bring something home for dinner instead of me cooking. I tried to go to bed early, but it took about an hour to fall asleep, then I awoke to extreme IBS cramps and a big toe throbbing in pain. I took my IBS medicine and after the hour it takes to kick-in, I fell back asleep. An hour later it was time to get up again because we had to leave the house by 5:45 AM! All-in-all I got ~2 hours of sleep! I sure noticed having more difficulties with my fibro fog due to the lack of sleep and the toe pain!
We were at the event from 6:15 AM-12:30 PM, so it was a looong day on our feet. It felt SO GOOD to sit down and relax for 15 minutes straight, in the middle of the event! The MC’s deceased wife had fibromyalgia and arthritis and I found myself tearing up during his speech. I found joy in watching children play with The Bubble Man’s huge bubbles! The Walk is dog-friendly so I also enjoyed lots of cute pups sporting their blue arthritis bandannas!
Luckily my IBS behaved, but my toe and feet were hurting pretty badly the whole morning. After bending over to cut slots in our door-prize ticket boxes my back was also hurting. Have I mentioned that it was raining yet? It rained for all but 2 of the hours, so that added to my aches. Afterward we grabbed some food to eat for lunch and headed home. After showering I took an hour nap and kept my feet up for the evening. My entire body was aching from toe to feet to legs to back to neck! My ankle, hip and finger joints were very stiff and achy! It was all worth it though, the event raise event raised over $30,000!
