This was my first Fibromyalgia Awareness Day as a fibro sufferer. I was recently diagnosed, though suspect I've had it for about 3 years. I couldn't find any events in my area so I just used my FB page. I posted pictures and information most days leading up to the 12th. I also created an "event" for my family and friends asking them to wear purple, learn more about fibro and tell someone they knew what they had learned. I'm proud (and honored) to say I had 40 people participate. I'm hoping to get something organized for next year, but I'm not sure where to start. Any suggestions?

Sound like you're taking lots of actions to end your flares - I hope they all work soon and that your work calms down!

I spent my whole day....and the weekend in a flare-up myself. Still hurting today, going to an energy healing session tonight that should give me some relief. I've had a ton of stress at work the last 3 weeks and it is really taking a toll on me. My IBS has been giving me a fit too, even saw my GI doc last week and we're doing some stuff to try to relieve my symptoms. Guess I was the picture perfect example of a fibro sufferer!

Thank you for this great post! I'm happy Felicia has encouraged your participation. My own Father has been gone for many years, but it wasn't until recently that I realized that although I wasn't diagnosed with anything specific when I was young, we knew there was something going on. In retrospect, I see now that he was constantly worried about me & spent as much time as he could with me & kept me active & healthy as possible. I stop at the cemetary & thank him often, for he gave me the inspiration to always make the best of things & giving up is never an option!

It is really sad. I'm hoping the NFMCPA will take that on next year.

I did not know, and find it really sad that Fibromyalgia Awareness Day was not included in the National Health Observance calendar for 2011 or 2012. Clearly the loss of the National Fibromyalgia Association last year has resulted in a huge loss of advocacy power for those of us living with fibromyalgia.

Purple is a part of my wardrobe nearly every day. I have had CFS since the early 90's and am struggling to keep it in remission by diet adaptations which involve giving up milk and that's incredibly hard for me to do.
