Fibro Feelings – Pain in the Neck!
For the first time in years I had to get my neck brace out and wear it for a few days. I had horrible neck pain that ended up turning into shoulder (front and back sides) and back pain down my entire right side of my body starting at the top of my spine. I had a diminished range-of-motion on my right side as well. Moist heat, heat and my own massage didn’t seem to be doing much and by day three it was nearly unbearable. The pain was so bad it was effecting my sleep and making me cranky. If I weren’t pregnant I would have taken a muscle relaxer or an anti-inflammatory medicine, but that wasn’t a choice now. It just felt like something was really out of whack, but I didn’t feel well enough to drive the 70 minute drive to my old chiropractor and was nervous to try a random new one this pregnant.
The Helpful Hubby ended up massaging me for a long time in two installments one night and that was the night I realized my neck brace might be helpful. Of course, since I hadn’t used it in years, I’d put it in a really hard to get to place earlier this year! hehe. Thankfully, The Helpful Hubby was up for the tasks of digging it out for me. The combination of the massage the neck brace drastically helped things. When I’d take off the neck brace my neck would be relaxed enough to get some further stretching/popping accomplished. It’s been four days now and it just feels a little abnormal.
The best thing that came out of this was when I asked my doula if she had any recommendations for closer chiropractors she talked with her network and found three for me! She said one of them, probably the closest one too, came highly recommended. While I may not need to use their services this flare-up I am very excited to now know one I can contact the next time I need one!
Do you ever use a neck brace?
