Gifts for those with Fibromyalgia – Part II
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you’re able to spend some time enjoying time with those that you love. I know some of you will be braving the crowds for Black Friday deals or spending time searching online for those Cyber Monday/Black Friday weekend deals. With that in mind I’m sharing some new ideas for gifts for those with fibromyalgia or other chronic conditions. Check out Part I for my previous suggestions with more stocking stuffers and gender-neutral gifts.
For stocking stuffers consider getting a great, natural lip balm like Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm and an easy, tasty treat like Hot Chocolate on a Stick.
Amazon Prime Membership – This is a gift that keeps on giving. Shopping can be physically and mentally taxing and Amazon Prime gives you free 2-day shipping on many items sold on Amazon. The membership it can also include free instant streams of 25,000 movies and TV shows and free loans of 180,000 titles from the Kindle Lending Library. The complicated part is that they don’t have a way to give it as a gift and you cannot use Amazon gift cards to pay for it. The solution I came up with is to get a pre-paid credit card for $79 and give that with a print out of how to sign up for Amazon Prime. There is a one-month free trial anyway, so this also allows for that to be used.
A Cozy Pashmina – These are great to have on hand for when you’re feeling a little chilly or when you want to dress up a simple outfit (like a plain long-sleeve t-shirt). They’re large enough you can wear them lots of ways, including like a shawl. I LOVE mine for dress up and for traveling especially. If you want to splurge on this item you can get a cashmere one.
HICKIES Elastic Shoelaces – I haven’t tried these, but the reviews sound pretty good. I’m thinking these would be great for replacing shoe laces on everyday shoes since they’re flexible they allow you to slip shoes on and off without having to tie/untie them. White ones wouldn’t look too different than regular laces.
Camelbak Groove Water Bottle - Sure, most people have a water bottle nowadays, but this one has a bite valve mouth piece that lets you drink from nearly any position (even in bed) and an internal filter. That nifty filter makes it easier to stay hydrated while out and about when public water is your only option since the filter makes the water taste better.
Circulon Cookware – We had to replace our main skillet and stock pot this year and went with these. We love them because they’re much lighter weight (easier on my joints) than our previous ones plus their handles are slightly grippy in texture. Their non-stick coating is excellent, making cooking and clean up much easier too.
Ruby Red Slipper Socks – I can’t help but chuckle at thinking about wearing these on those days when we just want to click our heels together (like Dorothy) and have everything improve.
Splurge Gift Idea: Netflix subscription – A one year subscription to Netflix lets someone watch movies, TV shows, documentaries on demand on their TV, tablet, computer, cell phone and more. It’s perfect for finding things to make us laugh when we’re feeling down or in pain. I received one as a gift last year and it has gotten tons of use!

What is on your wishlist this year?

I hate asking for gift certificates, but honestly they are my favourite to receive. I love to get iTunes cards that I can buy games or TV shows with, Kobo cards for buying books and Facebook credits to play stupid games those times my brain doesn’t work enough to read or watch TV. They’re not fun to buy or wrap, I know, but I don’t have a lot of need for ‘stuff’ and these are truly some of my favourite gifts to receive. As a mom of four (who doesn’t work) I can’t justify spending a lot of money on ‘fun’ stuff for me, but I love being treated to it.

I also put a few specific gift cards on my wish list, just in case someone wants to get one. I agree, it is hard for me to feel good paying for mp3s, but I like picking them out with a gift card!
