Fibro Feelings – My Summer Fleece
Strangers may be wondering why I’m wearing fleece socks in the middle of summer, but my feet have been killing me lately. There’s something about that soft, cushion of fleece that just makes walking on my feet (or really any type of pressure – even just from sitting) hurt a tiny bit less. I’ve been wearing them around the house and with tennis shoes when I have to go out. This type of constant foot pain reminds me of the days when I had to stand, at work, 40 hours a week. It isn’t quite as bad, but it is like how the 2nd and 3rd day of the work week would feel.
This current foot flare started last Wednesday, when I was running around for six hours. I drove a bit to see my dietitian, then met a friend for an hour, drove back closer to home, shopped at Target, stopped by a store to return something and went to the grocery store. My feet were already hurting pretty badly and I was feeling super fatigued before the grocery store, but I really needed to go there. Of course, being fatigued made following my list a little harder, so I ended up having to walk back and forth across the store to get items I’d already passed. That night my hip and leg area were hurting pretty badly too. All the days that have followed since have had include a lot of standing, walking or driving. This has made it so my foot pain can’t get better.
I’m hoping to be able to kick my feet up a bit more and not do as much standing, walking or driving this week. Some of my time will be spent with out of town guests, but I’m really going to focus on breaks where I have my feet elevated more. I’ve been wearing my calf compression sleeves and wrist braces and thankfully they’ve done a good job at reducing swelling and pain locally.
What’s your favorite feel-good foot item?

I’m so sorry for your foot pain, it’s just miserable. My favorite foot relief is to borrow my dog’s hard rubber ball and roll it around under my feet. It drives her nuts (she thinks i’m trying to play with her) but it feels SO GOOD.

Yes, I include fiery foot pain in the current foot pain I was referring to. Anytime my feet are hurting badly I get that burning sensation or even stabbing pains as well. I hope your feet feel better soon too!

My feet hurt me all the time. It started as just burning at night but eventually led to me seeing a podiatrist. I didn’t know this but I have arthritis in the balls of my feet. I now only wear Orthoheels and am waiting for my podiatrist to make my inserts that will go into sneakers.
My feel good items for my feet are soft ice packs, not totally frozen but just enough to cool my feet off. I sleep with a fan angled towards my feet as well. Hope you feel better!

Orthoheels make the slippers that I love! Sadly they discontinued my favorite ones though, so I’m going to have to try a new style.
You know what? I’m not sure I’ve ever tried icing my feet when they really hurt. I’ll have to try that.

I’ve had foot surgery on both feet last summer for plantar fasciitis, and use the tennis ball and roll in on the floor with my feet. I filled H2O in 16 (or is it 20 ?) oz plastci soda bottles, and froze them. Then I wear cotton socks and roll the bottles back and forth on the floor under my feet. And I bought a pair of Acorn slippers online from Amazon.com, and they are so comfortable.
I, too, have Fibro, but I do have arthritis in my feet!

Oh, a soda bottle sounds like it’d be a lot easier to roll around than a ball. Thanks for the suggestion!

Old Nana remedy, works wonders. Epsom salt foot baths. I went to the megabig mart and got myself a garbage can / wastebasket that my feet would fit comfortably in. Being taller than a dish pan, the height of the can allows me to soak my legs too. Sometimes i even dampen washcloths to lay over my knees. Very relaxing. The salts detox you, and the magnesium is good for aches and pains. I always feel somewhat better afterwards. I add essential oils, lemon, lavender , peppermint, or fresh grated ginger, cinnamon… Sometimes i soak while sitting on our massage chair pad, its like a spa, without the pain of driving all the way there…
(I have lyme and fm)

Oh yeah, I’ve heard of doing that with a tennis ball – which I don’t have. I really do have to try this technique some time.
