Fibro Feelings – Arthritis Walk 2012

What is Fibro Feelings?

This Saturday was our local Arthritis Walk, the culmination of all the months of our committee’s work. Although I’ve always worked hard at bringing in local donations, participation and sponsors, this is my first year bringing in a full sponsor. It was really exciting to see their tent all set up. People seemed to really like our raffle items too, which I procured all but one of. What I’m trying to say is that I felt really good about my contributions this year, which made the walk even more enjoyable.

The weather was wonderful! It was a little chilly during set up (we start at 6:30am), but by the time the event was going it was perfect. We had a nice turn out and raised over $35,000. I worked at the raffle tent the entire time, so I couldn’t really hear the speeches from the local and national youth honorees and our medical honoree sadly. After most people left to walk I was thinking about how my back was killing me. Then I looked across the park and realized a solution was near, at the Massage Envy tent. I thought it would just be a short 5 minute chair massage, but the massage therapist went longer than that. When he started working on my neck, he actually said, “wow” in response to the tightness. The massage really helped lessen my pain and help get me through the rest of the event. Hallelujah!

We ended up finishing event tear down ~1:30pm, so it was a long day. I’m shocked I fared as well as I did since I had insomnia the night before and only got 2-3 hours of sleep. I actually drove us home since The Helpful hubby’s muscles were sore from carrying tables all over the park, by himself. Every other time I’ve been the one who is clearly in worse shape, thus I’ve been the passenger. After plopping on the couch for a few hours I managed to take a shower. I was so achy (from head to toe), tired and muggy feeling. My legs and feet were super swollen, even though I’d worn my calf compression sleeves. Wearing the compression sleeves the next couple days has bad the swelling go down though. Even though the long day of work at the event always wears me out, I’m already excited to start planning our 2013 walk.

How was your weekend?
