Walk to CURE FM!
Can you believe that Fibromyalgia Awareness Day (May 12th) is only two months away?! I’m cooking up a little something special to share with you, but in the mean time i wanted to share this great event. The National Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Association is once again having Walk to CURE FM, which started in 2008 and used to be run by the National Fibromyalgia Association. CURE stands for Campaign for Understanding, Research, and Education of FM.
The goal set for this year is to have the fibromyalgia community walk across America, which is 5,408 miles, between now and May 12th. This could be walking on the ground, on exercise equipment or virtually. If you make a contribution to this event a one-year Membership to the National Fibromyalgia & Chronic Pain Association is included. Looks like it is time for me to dig my pedometer out again!
The NFMCPA suggests you start a local Walk to CURE FM and register your event with them. They are currently planning events in Salt Lake City, UT and Philadelphia, PA. While having events around May 12th may give you a media boost, they can get held at any time. You can walk as an individual or start a team. The NFMCPA website has lists of awareness day events in the U.S. and worldwide, but check back for added events. I’d expect the NFMCPA forums to start discussing this more as well. The NFMCPA also asks for your help in getting government officials to declare May 12th Fibromyalgia Awareness Day by contacting state officals and even the president! You can get a letter and fact sheets from the NFMCPA website. Check to see if your area has made a resolution/proclamation on this map.
Have you participated in previous awareness day events?
