When I’m 90 years old I hope to be like Betty White…on multiple levels. This was one of the thoughts I had last month while watching her 90th birthday special, followed by her new show, Betty White’s Off Their Rockers. She seems to enjoy and love life so much! At 90 I think it is safe to say she’s feeling fatigued and achy (at least more than she used to it). Obviously that is something that I connect with, having fibromyalgia. I know my 95-year-old grandpa who still does quite a lot hasn’t had the energy (and smiles) she appears to have in many, many years. This makes me think even higher of her.

Betty White has continued to volunteer and advocate for animals for many decades. I hope that I’m able to continue advocating and being a health activist for those with fibromyalgia through the end of my life. Everyone who has worked with her over the years, that I’ve ever heard speak, always has genuinely glowing things to say about her. I hope that people that I have and will interact with have fond memories of that time.

Betty White always seems so grateful. Grateful for her fans, her opportunities, her friends and life overall. Research has showed there are a lot of health benefits to being grateful. I always try to make sure I’ve shown my gratitude, but I feel there is always room for improvement when internally reflecting upon what we’re grateful for. Obviously, one of her greatest traits is being able to laugh at herself. This is something anybody living with chronic illness needs to be able to do! Facing life with a bit of humor can be so helpful and even make life more enjoyable.
