Gifts for those with Fibromyalgia – Part I
As the holidays approach us, most of us are struggling, trying to figure out the perfect gift to gives the ones we love or want to thank. Below I’ve compiled a list of gifts that most with fibromyalgia will appreciate, but would also be great gifts for anybody living with chronic illness. I hope this helps you find a great gift or compile your own wish list!
For stocking suffers, try hand warmers, toe/feet warmers
, nice herbal teas
, fun colored pens
and gift cards for MP3 music, books
(audio books if they use an e-reader) or their favorite restaurant.
Other gift ideas for those with fibromyalgia are:
SleepMask by Tempur-Pedic® – My all time favorite eye mask that is comfy, yet blocks out ALL the light (something most masks don’t do)
Smashbox Photo Op Under Eye Brightener- If they like makeup, this is a great product for helping cover up darkness under tired eyes – especially if they’re going to be in holiday photos!
BodySense NeckEase Moist Heat Pillow with Aromatherapy – A great neck wrap that can provide moist heat or be cold that is filled with aromatherapy herbs and spices (cloves, allspice, cinnamon, black pepper) so it smells great and helps you relax. Perfect for easing tight muscles and relaxation.
Simplehuman Sensor Pump – I got one of these as a gift last year and love it! You can use it for soap or sanitizer and all you do is stick your hand under it and you get the right amount of cleanser on your hands. No pumping of a handle needed, which is great for those of us with painful joints and also for use in the kitchen, when you have meat juices on your hands.
Fitted Fleece Socks- Super comfy (great for sore feet) and they help keep your feet warmer than regular socks in the winter.
Heated Throw Blanket with Auto Shut-off – Great for warming up and getting comfy. I like ones that have an auto shut-off, so if the receiver forgets to turn it off, due to fibro fog, it will do so on its own. For a cheaper alternative: Heated Throw Blanket
Heating Pad with Auto Shut-off – Great for soothing aches and pains and warming up. I like ones that have an auto shut-off, so if the receiver forgets to turn it off, due to fibro fog, it will do so on its own. If you’re worried about them possibly already having one, don’t! It is nice to own two, so one can be kept in bed and one elsewhere.
Sombra Natural Pain Relieving Gel – Warm Therapy – My favorite pain relieving gel! It isn’t sticky, doesn’t stink and works well.
Lavender Epsom Salts- Great for taking a calming bath and moisturizing skin. It helps relax muscles, soothing aches (like sore feet) and sprains.
Splurge gift idea: Tablet- Great for use in bed, at a hospital, waiting at the doctors. These tablets can help people stay connected to the ones they love and be entertained when they’re not feeling well.
For lots more gift ideas for gardeners, people who like to cook/bake and more, see my Resources page.
What is on your wishlist this year?

All great ideas! I also have the body wedge cushions on my list! The tablet splurge is an amazing gift option. I love mine so much I could write it a love song.
I would also add that if you choose the undereye makeup or the bath salts to keep your receipt. Some fibromites don’t fare too well with chemicals.

I discovered I actually do like makeup only to discover it doesn’t like me. I tried an undereye dark spot coverup and it made my eyes comically puffy, luckily no burning. So now I’m paranoid, no harm meant!

Oh yikes, I bet that was scary! I’m a huge fan of always giving gift receipts, but I guess I should include that in my next gift idea post!

A gift of blank boxed note cards, all occasion cards, postage stamps, perhaps a pen or cute colored pencils…

I just love stationary! I always have to stop myself from buying it when I don’t need it. To me, there is nothing like getting a hand-written note in the mail.

I wrote about an electirc vegetable peeler in a post last year (http://feliciafibro.com/2010/11/11/fibro-feelings-trivia-holiday-gifts/) wondering if it’d work well. Glad to know that you like yours!
