Fibro Feelings – Things I Learned this Week
The highlight of my week was finally finding some soy-free milk chocolate. I am so excited!! I was at Whole Foods and found an organic, fair trade, peppermint stick milk chocolate bar by Theo Chocolate. They even have 3 other soy-free flavors that I want to try that are cleary marked as soy free on their website! I can’t even tell you how many milk chocolate products that I’ve looked at the ingredient lists for, at many stores, without finding ANY without soy. I don’t like the bitterness of dark chocolate, so on the times when I hadta have a piece of milk chocolate I’ve had to be sure that I din’t eat any other soy that day, to avoid getting sick. I feel like this is such a reason to celebrate because even though I don’t eat chocolate often, I now have one that I love that I can enjoy as a treat every now and then – like a “normal” person.
Another thing that I learned this week is that standing on bus rides (or any jerky type of transportation) is extremely painful for someone with a torn labrum. I was taking a bus ride and as soon as the bus started moving and I had to use my legs to stabilize myself I was in a lot of pain. Luckily, there was a seat available for me to sit in, as that isn’t always the case. On another bus ride I had to stand, so I tried to use my arm strength to pull my body in a direction that would keep the weight off the side I’m injured on. This helps a lot, but isn’t fun.
The Helpful Hubby and I were visiting his parents and we stayed with them. This was the first time they’ve dealt with me eating soy free. Their diet normally contains a lot of soy, so they were stressing about what I would be able to eat. I planned to cook dinner for us all one of the nights that my Mother-in-law had to work since I already had a soup recipe that I knew that my in-laws liked. I had made it for them previously, when they were visiting us. It worked out perfectly because I provided myself with a soy free meal that I liked and my Mother-in-law felt loved since I planned to cook it on a night that she had to work, so she wouldn’t have to cook. I plan to use this helpful trick every time I come visit them!
What have you learned this week?
