Fibro Feelings – Headaches & More

What is Fibro Feelings?

On Sunday I went on my first bike ride of the season! The Helpful Hubby and I rode just under 12 miles in great weather. Although my body felt pretty good, I probably should’ve gone for a shorter ride for my first ride. My tush had forgotten what it is like to sit on a saddle for that long and started hurting just 2 miles in. Even with my padded shorts, my sit bones were sore for three days. I also ended up with a horrid headache a few miles in. I didn’t want to stop just after starting, so I biked through it. Of course, a higher heart rate makes headaches seem to pound even more, so I took tons of breaks along the way. Breaks did give The Helpful Hubby and I time to sit and chat in the sunshine though.

After returning home I ate an apple, took Tylenol, showered and crashed into bed. I was hoping I’d be able to sleep my headache off, but that didn’t happen. I forced myself to eat something for dinner and a couple hours later my head hadn’t improved at all. At that point I took and an opioid pain killer. Even that barely lessened my headache pain. When I woke up on Monday my headache was still there, but at a much smaller level.

I have had some other headaches recently, so the Registered Dietitian (RD) that I’m working with on my elimination diet became concerned. She thinks that something we’ve added more of (than I typically eat) is causing the increase in number and severity of my headaches. She suggested that I may be sensitive to foods high in vasoactive amines and had me remove all nuts from my diet, except cashews. After I had another mild headache she had me remove even the cashews from my diet. I’ll keep you updated on the effects that has.

On a more fun note, I got my haircut and my eyebrows shaped this week, in preparations for a wedding I’m attending this weekend. I was SO excited that the spa I get my brows done at started selling Sombra Natural Pain Relieving Gel again, because I was about to run out! I also bought my first ever maxi dress, which was already on sale and I then I used a $20 off coupon. I love good deals!

Do certain foods cause you to have headaches?

Yes foods can cause my headaches. MSG is a big one for me and artificial sweetners. But also certain cheeses and if I am already on the verge of being in a flare, bacon. Hope you figure out the headaches and get rid of them.

Thanks! I’ve never been able to figure out a food trigger for my headaches/migraines, so I’m interested to find out what it is, if it is food related. Although, like you mentioned, MSG sometimes seems to trigger them for me.

I get migraines from MSG.

White bread, white rice, and too much sugar (soft drink, fruit juice, icecream) will give me a high-blood-sugar-headache.

Definately MSG and cheese and sometimes wheat.
Congratulations on being Featured Fibro Blogger of the Week!
